Grow an orchard is a job that is normally attributed to a farmer, but the truth is not so difficult if we have some light at home open space and a little patience. An orchard turns out to be an attractive and economical way to get good quality vegetables throughout the year.

It is known as orchard irrigated crops; they require plenty of water and are grown legumes and vegetables. The orchards have become popular in cities as a practice for food at low cost and high quality.

How to create an orchard at home?

  1. First you must set the space where it will grow; this space should be open and sunny during the day.
  2. Assign spaces to cultivate, leaving spaces in between to move smoothly, if you have pets at home should enclose the orchard to prevent pets do their business on it.
  3. Add the ground and move with a shovel and a rake to aerate it and remove stones and weeds, leaving only loose soil.
  4. Add a layer of compost from 2 to 10 cm high. You can put compost but this usually attracts mosquitoes.
  5. After having the land ready is time to sow, can plant whatever you want, however, it is easier to sow tomato, eggplant, parsley, spinach, etc.
  6. The seeds should not be planted so deep and must maintain a considerable distance between them so they can grow without taking water and nutrients to the other.
  7. It should be watering the orchard at night or at dusk to take more water, irrigation should not be excessive or too little. A drip irrigation system is suitable for orchards.
  8. Check daily the orchard, verify that it is growing healthily and removing plants dry and diseased leaves.
  9. After a few weeks, depending on what is planted, the orchard will get the desired crop and may reseed another batch.

It is advisable to sow seeds of season; they are easier and cheaper to get, in addition to needing less care for growth.
