The wild olive is a shrub found in the family of olive trees, is very similar and often tend to be confused by people. It’s a common shrub in Mediterranean soil. Knowing a little more about the wild olive it could be easier to differentiate and thus know if what you visualize is a wild olive or olive.
In order to differentiate both the olive tree and the wild olive it’s important to know a little about these trees, why are some qualities of these wonderful trees:
- Both are slow-growing trees.
- They can live in almost any terrain.
- They love the sun and do not like the cold.
- Its plants are perennial type which is very resistant and helps the tree.
- Dan as the olive fruit.
- No need constant watering, withstand drought and because of this they are often used in the reforestation of forests.
Defining that these are trees of the same family and with the same qualities it’s difficult to differentiate; however, there are some differences that may indicate whether it’s an olive tree or wild olive.
Differences between olive and wild olive trees
Fruit: the fruit of both trees is the olive. However, the wild olive can see that the olive is extracted is smaller, while in the olive tree we got a larger and more vehement olivine extracted.
Leaf: both leaves are perennial type, they differ as the olive tree has large leaves longer and instead those of wild olive usually shorter and thinner.
Size: perhaps the most important difference since the wild olive not grow much; although both are trees that can live for long periods of time, the wild olive does not grow very high, which is favorable for the near cattle to the area as it serves food. The olive tree usually grow, reaching even measuring 15 meters high.
